DescriptionHistory without blank spaces. The Hermitage 20\21 project, supported by Ilim Group, is made to fill in the blank spaces in Russia’s contemporary art history, especially of the Soviet period, and pay homage to Russian artists that for years have had far more recognition abroad than in Russia. To illustrate this idea, we created a blank calendar, an empty contemporary art gallery that the owner fills himself. Together with the blank calendar, one gets a set of prints by two world-renowned Russian conceptualists, Dmitry Prigov (from the collection presented at the 54th Biennale in Venice, 2011) and Ilya Kabakov. Each print has an annotation on the reverse; we are grateful to Emilia Kabakova for sending us the stories of every installation by Ilya Kabakov. When the year is over, the prints can live on – you just take them out and keep your mini contemporary art collection.
